At this price point, Australian and New Zealand pinot noir are a much more reliable investment than Burgundy, but this is the third vintage of this label that has made the cut for Wine Taste. It’s a reliable and value for money monopole that transcends the lesser appellation of Mercurey, from vines aged between 20 and 50 years. The focus here is on elegant cherry fruits, supported by 14-16 months maturation in oak barrels (around one-third new). The result is a clean and well-made wine, appealing, light, fruit-focused and well suited to early drinking. $45 at The Museum Wine Shop (2011).
