Bleasdale Langhorne Creek Sparkling Shiraz

Sparkling red may be a small sector of the sparkling market, but it’s growing rapidly, and Bleasdale makes the best-selling example in the country. In spite of growth in production, this label has retained remarkable character and calibre. Winemaker Paul Hotker is working hard on the finer details, using fresher dosage liqueur that he makes from scratch, and working the base wines intuitively according to the right length of time in oak and tank to suit the nature of the fruit. It captures the personality of classic, medium-bodied Langhorne Creek shiraz with refined restraint, low alcohol, well-managed, finely textured tannins and good persistence. A lovely plum, rhubarb and black pepper fruit profile is accented with a pretty violet lift. Still the best value sparkling red on the shelves. $18 at Discount Wines, Wine List Australia, Aussie Wines, Purvis Cellars and United Cellars.
