Don’t let the name slow you down, this is one of the great and age-worthy wines of the Eden Valley, and 2009 is a sensational rendition, a wine of immaculate varietal definition, structure and detail, capturing both the restrained, structural focus of the vintage and the generosity of Eden Valley cabernet and shiraz. Cabernet leads confidently here, emphasising great definition of blackcurrant and blackberry fruit with leaf, cedar, tobacco, black olives and tomatoes. The length, line and coherence are phenomenal and the tannin structure is at once firm and rigid and at the same time finely textured. Go long on this one. $34 at Dan Murphy’s.
