Mount Langi Ghiran Shiraz
2013 corresponds to the 50th anniversary of Langi’s old vines, implanted in the granite soils of this inimitable site. The 2010 vintage was a significant one for Langi, a beautifully crafted and understated release with a promising future stretching before it. 80% whole bunch maceration creates a flurry of perfume and exotic spice, with the sappy notes of stalks prominent amidst fragrant pipesmoke and hints of game. An immensely spice-accented Langi, the overlay of whole bunch character plays down the characteristic pepper personality of this site. The palate is nonetheless beautifully controlled, immaculately and finely textured, agile in body and weight. Its tannin texture is beautifully refined, with a lightness in the mouth, yet magnificently persistent and engaging. $80 at My Cellars, WineStar, Boccaccio and Canterbury Wines.
