Scorpo Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay

Dollar for dollar, this has got to rank among the top chardonnays that have emerged this year. More than this, it’s one of just two chardonnays at this price that I have ever scored 96 points, the other being the sublime Oakridge of the same vintage. Scorpo’s most outstanding chardonnay yet is impeccably precise in every dimension: its bouquet wonderfully lifted in lemon blossom fragrance, vibrant grapefruit purity and subtle white peach and fig depth; its palate refined and tangy in acid definition and delightfully textured in mineral mouth feel. Underriding all this is an understated struck flint complexity. Paul Scorpo and Sandro Moselle deserve a knighthood for this one. $32 at Wine Box Warehouse.
