Champagne: Auctioning the World’s Finest

Together with Australia’s premier wine auction house Langtons, it’s my great pleasure to invite you to join me as a participant in the largest fine and rare champagne auction ever held in Australia, as announced in The Australian Financial Review last month.

Champagne: Auctioning the World’s Finest will be an annual champagne platform hosted online for the first time in late November through early December 2024.

We invite you to submit champagnes for auction. All proceeds will of course be your own (besides Langtons’ usual 15% consignment fee). Submissions can be made using this form.

We are pleased to share with you a comprehensive Auction Partnership Prospectus detailing Langtons’ profile, client demographics, market overview, auction history, promotional plan, timeline and participation opportunities. We invite you to nominate lots that you would like to submit by September, for delivery to Langtons’ Melbourne warehouse or dropoff locations around the country in October.

Australia has mushroomed into the world’s fourth largest champagne market per head of consumption, and it is our intention with this auction to excite collectors and drive awareness of the depth of this luxury category. The rise and rise of champagne in the global secondary market in recent years and the scarcity of availability of the top cuvées in the primary market makes this a pertinent year in which to launch this auction in Australia.

In June in Paris, Sotheby’s conducted what was believed to be the world’s first exclusive champagne auction, with total sales reaching €1.35m (AUD$2.25m) with more than 50% of lots exceeding their pre-sale high estimates by ‘a wide margin.’

I commend the detail of the prospectus and the submission form to you and remain at your disposal for any queries you might have.

Santé! Tyson.
