De Bortoli Estate Grown Yarra Valley Pinot Noir
Steve Webber foresees that the warm and aromatic 2013 season may ultimately be more highly regarded than 2012 at the pointy end of Yarra Valley pinot. His Estate blend of five mature vineyards is a compelling start. Twenty percent whole bunches in the blend emphasise alluring complexity of violet fragrance, while a core of deep black cherries and blackberries reflects a warmer vintage, yet lacking nothing in poise, finesse and structure. A savoury backbone of firm, fine tannins overlays notes of brambles and beetroot. Tannin grip on the finish is impressive, promising medium-term potential. $20 at WineStar, No Frills, Aussie Wines and Wine List Australia.
