Lake’s Folly winemaker Rod Kempe has been “in awe” of some of the Western Australian fruit of owner Fogarty family vineyards and finally found the chance to blend with his historic Hunter vineyard. The result is a unique and perhaps unprecedented blend of Hunter Valley, Margaret River and Perth Hills cabernet, shiraz and a little petit verdot and merlot. It’s a take on the great Australian red blend like no other, a beautifully calm and enticing style, yet at the same time a wine of great definition and confident structure. Fragrant violets waft over blackcurrants and black cherries of considerable intensity, structured with tannins that weave seamlessly from start to finish. Buy direct, but ask nicely, there are only 300 cases to go around.
